Interlinked Fire Detection
Since February 2022, all homes in Scotland must have interlinked fire alarms. We supply and install compliant smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detection systems.
What Does the Law Require?
The Scottish Government introduced new fire and smoke alarm legislation that came into force on 1st February 2022. This means every home in Scotland, whether owned or rented, must now have interlinked fire alarms.
Interlinked means that when one alarm detects a fire, all alarms in the property will sound together. This gives occupants the earliest possible warning of fire, no matter where they are in the property.
Book InstallationWhat Alarms Do You Need?
The minimum requirements for every Scottish home under the new legislation.
Smoke Alarms
One smoke alarm in the room you spend most of the day (usually the living room), plus one in every hallway and landing. These must be ceiling mounted.
Heat Alarm
One heat alarm in the kitchen. Heat alarms are used in kitchens as they are less likely to be triggered by cooking fumes, reducing false alarms.
Carbon Monoxide Alarm
A carbon monoxide detector is required in any room with a carbon-fuelled appliance such as a boiler, fire, heater or flue.
How Does Interlinking Work?
Interlinked alarms communicate with each other so that when one alarm is triggered, all alarms in the property sound simultaneously. This ensures you receive the earliest possible warning regardless of where you are in your home.
Alarms can be interlinked in two ways:
When one alarm detects smoke, heat or CO, all interlinked alarms throughout the property sound together, providing maximum warning time for evacuation.
Homeowners
All owner-occupied properties in Scotland must comply with the new legislation. We offer supply and installation packages to bring your home up to standard.
Landlords
Landlords are responsible for ensuring rental properties have compliant interlinked alarms installed before a new tenancy begins.
Short Term Lets
Holiday lets and Airbnb properties must have interlinked alarms as part of the Short Term Let Licence requirements in Scotland.
